"It's a Growl Thing"

This is a blog that focuses on metal, rock & hardcore/punk music. I'll be writing reviews on songs that I like, albums I love and concerts that I enjoyed! You'll find both new and old music here.

Slayer was formed in 1981 and consists of Tom Araya (Vocals, bass), Kerry King (Guitars), Jeff Hanneman (Guitars) and Dave Lombardo (Drums). They’ve released 11 albums so far and are currently working on their 12th album, which is set to be released sometime during 2013. They are considered one of “The Big Four” of thrash metal together with Metallica, Megadeth and Anthrax. Their song War Ensemble is the first song on their third album, Seasons in the Abyss, which was released in 1990. The album was met by positive reviews and the album also included their first music video.

War Ensemble is the first track of Seasons in the Abyss. The song is in usual Slayer stylewith heavy guitar riffs and fast drum-patterns topped off with Tom Araya’s unique voice. The lyrics are also the same usual when it comes to Slayer. The name of the song pretty much says it all, the lyrics are inspired by war and it kind of fits with well with the song since it’s so heavy and chaotic. What I really like about the thrash genre is the heaviness and quickness of the guitars. This is one of my favorite Slayer tracks and Slayer is also my favorite band from “The Big Four” of thrash metal. Check it out!
