"It's a Growl Thing"

This is a blog that focuses on metal, rock & hardcore/punk music. I'll be writing reviews on songs that I like, albums I love and concerts that I enjoyed! You'll find both new and old music here.

Slipknot is one of the biggest metal bands out there right now. The band was formed in 1995 and released their self-titled first album, Slipknot, in 1999. The lineup for the album consisted of Corey Taylor (Vocals), Mick Thomson (Guitars), Shawn Crahan (Percussions, backing vocals), Craig Jones (Samples, media), Jim Root (Guitars), Chris Fehn (Percussion, backing vocals), Paul Gray (Bass, backing vocals), Joey Jordison (Drums) and Sid Wilson (Turntables). The album has sold platinum in the U.S twice and is one of the most successful debut metal albums ever. I found out about Slipknot through my aunt, who listened to metal. I remember liking what I heard but when I saw the masks it kind of freaked me out. But after a few years I re-discovered them and Slipknot is a band that I listen to a lot these days!

The Album: Slipknot contains loads of classic Slipknot songs. In this album you’ll find tracks like Surfacing, Spit it Out, Wait and Bleed and Purity. The album blends in many different elements and influences, Joey Jordison said in an interview that “the roots are death metal, thrash, speed metal and I could go on and on about all those bands”. With this album Slipknot really defined their own sound with samples, Corey Taylor’s voice, their guitar riffs and their heaviness. The album made its stand - Slipknot was here to stay. There are many unique songs on this album, but the ones that stick out to me are Eyeless, Spit it Out, Wait and Bleed and Purity (Removed from the album initially). All these tracks are heavy and define Slipknot for me. Purity is about an urban legend which Corey Taylor believed was a real story. In my opinion, this is one of the strongest debut albums ever made. With the death of Paul Gray (RIP) Slipknot has only made live-performances and it’s still uncertain if they’ll release anything in the future.
