All That Remains was formed by Phil Labonte in 1998 and was originally a side-project of his. After leaving the melodic death metal band Shadow Fall he decided to focus on All That Remains and they released their first album in 2002. Since then they’ve released five more albums, the latest being A War You Cannot Win. The group consists of Phil Labonte (Vocals), Oli Herbert (Guitar), Mike Martin (Guitar), Jeanne Sagan (Bass) and Jason Costa (Drums).
Phil Labonte’s high pitched scream opens up the song and sets the pace for this energetic song. The vocals on this track are really good (Even though the intro gets boring after a while) and mix Phil Labonte’s growls with clean parts during the chorus. The guitars are very melodic but still feel hard and well-thought out (The guitar riff @ 2:28 is epic) and together with the drums they lay a heavy foundation for the song. Overall a very catchy song, the chorus is fantastic.
Having seen them at Metaltown 2011, I can say that they’re a pretty good live band. They were having fun on stage and they seem to like Sweden (Who doesn’t though?). I recorded a couple of videos of the gig, check out my YouTube channel if you want to!
