Taking Back Sunday was founded in 1999 by guitarist Eddie Reyes and consists (Besides Reyes) of Adam Lazzara (Lead vocals), John Nolan (Lead guitars, co-lead vocals), Shaun Cooper (Bass) and Mark O’Connell (Drums). They released their first album Tell All Your Friends in 2002 and received very good reviews, scoring a 5/5 on Sputnikmusic and Alternative Press. The album was certified gold by the RIAA. Cute Without The ‘E’ was the third single from the album.
Cute Without The ‘E’ has a pretty sad vibe to it. The song shifts after about two minutes from being “angry” and energetic to a more melodic and soft part. I absolutely love the vocals on this track; they fit well together and create a vibe in the song giving it some emotion. The lyrics are also great and also provides a good emotional text -
“Hoping for the best, just hoping nothing happens
A thousand clever lines unread on clever napkins
I will never ask if you don’t ever tell me
I know you well enough to know you never loved me”
This was one of my favorite songs a couple of years ago and is still a song I listen to a lot. They’re currently writing new material for their new album!
