Linkin Park was formed in 1996 in Agoura Hills, California. The band was formed by three friends - Mike Shinoda (Vocals, guitar, keyboard), Rob Bourdon (Drums) and Brad Delson (Lead guitar). They later on recruited Joe Hahn (Turntables, samples, programming), Dave “Phoenix” Farell and Mark Wakefield (Vocals). After two years Mark Wakefield left the band and Linkin Park recruited Chester Bennington to take over vocal duties. The band released their first album Hybrid Theoryin 2000 which was met by mostly positive reviews. The song Papercut is from their first album, Hybrid Theory, and is the first track of the album.
Papercut was the third single to be released by Linkin Park. The song combines Chester Bennington’s screams with Mike Shinoda’s rap vocals, which is now a classic sound of Linkin Park. The song is about Paranoia and the music video might be one of Linkin Park’s most famous ones. The song also contains Joe Hahn’s scratches (Turntables) and Brad Delson’s distorted guitar. In my opinion, this is one of the best songs Linkin Park has made. The chorus is epic with Chester Bennington and Mike Shinoda singing -
“It’s like I’m paranoid lookin’ over my back
It’s like a whirlwind inside of my head
It’s like I can’t stop what I’m hearing within
It’s like the face inside is right beneath my skin”
It’s a shame Linkin Park didn’t continue on this path, but you have to respect the fact that they wanted to evolve and try a new sound. Their first two albums, Hybrid Theory and Meteora are my favorite from Linkin Park. Both albums are really great!
