"It's a Growl Thing"

This is a blog that focuses on metal, rock & hardcore/punk music. I'll be writing reviews on songs that I like, albums I love and concerts that I enjoyed! You'll find both new and old music here.

It’s pretty un-clear when and how The Hives were formed but the band has always consisted of Howlin’ Pelle Almqvist (Vocals), Nicholaus Arson (Guitar, backing vocals, keyboard - brother of Pelle Almqvist), Vigilante Carlstroem (Guitar, backing vocals), Dr. Matt Destruction (Bass) and Chris Dangerous (Drums). Their first album was released in 1997 and was named Barely Legal. The band became famous when they released their second Veni Vidi Vicious in 2000. The album contained hit-songs like Hate To Say I Told You So and Main Offender. They released their latest album in 2012 called Lex Hives and it contains the track Patrolling Days.

As always The Hives delivers a catchy song with a chorus that really sticks with you -

“My patrolling days are over
And I ain’t shot nobody since
I fought the big cheese out of office
And showed the hep kids how to dance”

The song is in classic The Hives style, a melodic rock song with Howlin’ Pelle’s unique vocals. This song works perfectly as a live-song. When I saw them a couple of weeks ago this song was one of the highlights, energetic, easy to sing-a-long to and together with Howlin’ Pelle’s epic stage presence this song becomes even better than on album. But, in my opinion, almost every The Hives track is better live! One of the greatest live acts from Sweden, if you have the chance - SEE THEM.
